Day 6 PlotWatcher Camera Tips

With so many time-lapse video cameras hitting the market, it’s easy to get confused as to which one is the best. When deciding which camera to choose, let the facts speak for themselves. The Day 6 PlotWatcher Pro Time-Lapse Video Camera was not only the first of its kind, but it boasts such an extensive battery life that its able to capture up to 1 million images on a single set of batteries, something no other time-lapse video camera on the market can do.

Like the original PlotWatcher, the PlotWatcher Pro takes the guesswork out of hunting by recording daytime game activity around potential hunting locations revealing the best time and place to hunt. The PlotWatcher Pro takes a picture every 5 or 10 seconds and saves the pictures as an HD video. You can even set the camera to record images every second — no other time-lapse camera can do that either!

GameFinder Software with MotionSearch software allows you to review one 12-hour day of footage in 2-4 minutes. The competition requires that you manually go into the images folder on the SD card and select the images you want to review. Unlike the GameFinder Software, that arranges the images by the day and lets you review each day at a time, the competition’s image files are not organized by day or event. For tips on using your PlotWatcher, check out these helpful videos at http://www.day6outdoors.com/.

Here are a few additional tips from the Day6 staff that will help you get even more useful information from your camera.
Set the camera up to review possible stand locations, fields, roads and power lines.

If possible, position your camera facing north or south to prevent the sun from backlighting your subject and making it a non-descript silhouette in the photo.

If you set the PlotWatcher in open areas such as fields, food plots, clear cuts, power lines etc…, set your camera to take footage every 10 seconds. If you set up the PlotWatcher in thicker cover, choose every five seconds to double your chance of getting great pictures of the animals you seek.

Place a PlotWatcher camera at another nearby hunting location while you hunt. Then you can check the camera when you leave to find out what happened at the other location while you were away.

2011 Day 6 PlotWatcher Pro

The original Day 6 PlotWatcher time-lapse video camera was a game changer no doubt, but the new PlotWatcher Pro hits it out of the park. With four times the battery life and a 2.5″ LCD for on-board camera set-up, video aiming and camera status messages, the PlotWatcher Pro will put you that much closer to getting that trophy buck you so desire.

The PlotWatcher Pro is not a traditional trail camera. In fact, traditional trail cameras with time-lapse features pail in comparison to the PlotWatcher Pro. There are three very important design criteria for a time-lapse camera — long battery life, the ability to support tens or hundreds of thousands of images and good picture quality in low light conditions without a flash. This is because some of the most important scenery for a timelapse camera is happening right at dawn or dusk, out of reach of a flash.

Traditional trail cameras are optimized for large megapixel counts, continuous motion detection and energy-efficient flashes. The design choices to make a good quality trail camera are simply not the same design choices to make a high quality time-lapse camera such as the PlotWatcher Pro.

Like the original PlotWatcher, the PlotWatcher Pro uses time-lapse video technology to record high-definition images taking a picture every 5 or 10 seconds and saving these individual pictures as an HD video. So whether the animal is 30 feet away or 330 feet away, you’ll see them on the video. Essentially, the PlotWatcher Pro records what you would have seen if you’d been scouting that same spot for all of that time.

PlotWatcher Pro-Open
In addition, the PlotWacher Pro accepts add-on zoom lenses, features temperature and moon-phase info on each image, uses an SD card storage, is security cable ready and saves video files in ½ of the memory space. It also features defined time-of-day for video start and stop.

The GameFinder video player software, free with the PlotWatcher Pro, gives you the ability to watch an entire 12-hour day’s worth of video in just a few minutes.
