Swarovski CL Companion Wins Gray’s Best Award

Cranston, Rhode Island – SWAROVSKI OPTIK NORTH AMERICA, a subsidiary of the Austrian-based company, announces the CL Companion has won the prestigious Gray’s “Best Award” for best binocular. This award will be given as part of their 2012 Guides and Expeditions Annual edition.

“SWAROVSKI OPTIK of Austria, which over the past quarter century has become one of the most familiar names in high-end glass in the United States equips each binocular with features we have come to expect, including its patented optical coatings for effortless light transmission, a delightfully ergonomic design, easy focusing, and both durability and waterproof construction,” said Gray’s in an excerpt for the 2012 magazine.

Each year, the editors of Gray’s Sporting Journal evaluate hundreds of new products to determine which ones really stand out as the “best” in their category of sporting equipment. Gray’s Sporting Journal presents the Gray’s “Best Awards” annually in recognition of the most outstanding new products for hunting and angling.

Dean J. Capuano, Director of Communications said, “It truly is an honor to be selected by Gray’s Sporting Journal for their annual Gray’s “Best Award”. Best New Binoculars: Swarovski CL Companion 8x30mm

Swarovski’s brand-new CL Companion is anything but dull. Light and compact without falling into the shirt-pocket category, this is a binocular to use all day in the African bush or tote up a sheep mountain with comfort—as was noted independently by both optics testers, Geoff Clothier and Leroy Van Buggenum.

I can see it for treestand sitting in the whitetail woods. The testers’ comments included “very, very clear,” “field of view seems greater than 8×30,” “hardly know they are around your neck.” More important, to my eye anyway, is the technical quality of the binocular with its light-transmitting and -scratch–resisting lens coatings, turn-out eyecups, tight diopter adjustment, generous -center–focus ring, solid bridge, and grippy -ergonomic feel. —T.M.
