Leupold® Tactical Optics Creates a New HAMR™

BEAVERTON, Ore. – New from Leupold’s® Tactical Optics Division, the Mark 4® High Accuracy Multi-Range (HAMR™) riflescope has the performance and versatility required for active duty in bright daylight, low light and at night.

The Mark 4 HAMR is a fixed power 4x24mm sight. Built for precise mid-range marksmanship and fast target acquisition, it offers a variety of features that work to the advantage of military warfighters, law enforcement personnel, and other tactical or competitive shooters. These features include the ballistically matched illuminated CM-R2™ reticle, a fast-focus eyepiece and Leupold’s advanced Xtended Twilight Lens System™. In addition, Leupold’s DeltaPoint™ reflex sight can be attached to the HAMR, providing instant target acquisition capability at close quarters. (DeltaPoint and HAMR are available as a package.)

“Our new Mark 4 HAMR is versatile, tough, compact and combat-ready,” said Kevin Trepa, vice president of tactical sales and marketing for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Simple to use, it can be employed with any AR-15 variant to engage targets with exceptional speed and precision.”

The CM-R2 reticle is designed for the most popular tactical rounds and weapons systems. An etched glass reticle, it is clearly visible with the illumination activated or in the “off” mode.

By combining the ranging ability of Leupold’s Special Purpose Reticle (SPR®) with the quick acquisition of the Leupold Circle Dot reticle, the CM-R2 provides the flexibility necessary on the modern battlefield or 3-gun course. The CM-R2 preserves the instinctive fire capabilities of the Circle Dot for the short-range, low-magnification needs of the CQB warfighter and competitive multi-gun shooters.

The CM-R2 is designed to allow the shooter to focus more attention on the target and less attention on the reticle. A boldly illuminated 0.5 MOA dot surrounded by a 5.0 MOA semi-circle enhance the shooter’s focus and combine precision with speed when the target is up close and personal. Hash marks on the horizontal stadia are calibrated for leading moving targets at 5, 10 and 15 mph, respectively. Vertical tic marks allow users to estimate ranges based on 18″ wide targets at increasing ranges, while also providing precise holdover points for targets between 300 and 900 meters.

With a quick 1.5 revolutions “lock to lock,” the rapid adjustment speed of the HAMR’s eyepiece helps get the shooter in focus and on target in short order. The addition of a DeltaPoint allows the user to quickly shift from the reflex sight to the HAMR, transitioning from close quarters to longer ranges with speed and ease.

Leupold’s Xtended Twilight Lens System provides superior light transmission for the best low-light performance, particularly in the blue/violet light of dawn and dusk. The system produces an extremely bright, sharp image across the HAMR’s visual field. Combined with a constant 2.71 inches of eye relief, the optical system is much more forgiving and effective than first-generation optical sights.

A flat-top Picatinny mounting system is included with each HAMR. It is compatible with any rail mounting system. Other features include 0.10 mil click adjustments for windage and elevation, and a F88 5.56mm Bullet Drop Compensation (BDC) dial.

Ready for deployment, the Mark 4 HAMR comes in a matte black finish, weighs 17.2 ounces and is 5.6 inches long. The scope is waterproof, fog proof and shock proof.

USMC Awards Contract to Leupold Tactical for Mark 8 CQBSS Riflescopes

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Leupold’s® Tactical Optics Division has won a contract with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) to supply 728 Mark 8™ 1.1-8x24mm CQBSS™ riflescopes for use with M2 heavy machine guns and MK19 grenade machine guns. The sight will carry the M521 designation.

Ordered to meet the need of Afghanistan-based Marine units for a Heavy Day Optic, the Mark 8 CQBSS scopes will be employed to support combat operations. A key feature of the scope is Leupold’s new Marine-Tactical Milling Reticle (M-TMR™), which is designed to allow successful range estimation and target engagement with more flexibility than generally possible with other reticle styles. The M-TMR’s “staircased” configuration preserves the instinctive-fire capabilities on low magnification while allowing precise range estimation at any power setting.

“The Marine Corps’ innovative employment of this new technology will bring enhanced lethality to two combat-proven systems, the M2 and MK19 heavy machine guns,” said Kevin Trepa, vice president of Leupold’s Tactical Division. “We will continue working hard to deliver the new tools that our warfighters need to succeed on the battlefield.”

The Mark 8 CQBSS has a state-of-the-art lens system providing operators with the capability of an 8-power precision riflescope in one rugged, field-proven unit. The 34mm maintube features a fully checkered ocular bell for making quick magnification adjustments even while wearing gloves.

A front focal plane reticle, the M-TMR is accurate at all magnification settings. Eight illumination settings allow for optimum contrast with or without night vision. An off position between each intensity setting makes returning to the preferred setting nearly immediate.

In addition, the Mark 8 CQBSS has Auto-Locking Pinch and Turn turrets with 0.10 mil clicks that are extremely easy to adjust, yet eliminate accidental adjustment in the field. Leupold’s Index Matched Lens System® with DiamondCoat 2™ helps enhance optical performance by providing increased light transmission and scratch resistance that exceeds mil-specs.

Mark 8 CQBSS riflescopes have a matte black finish and are filled with an argon/krypton gas blend, making them second-generation waterproof, fog proof and shock proof. Flip-open lens covers and a 2.5″ sun shade are standard issue.

Mossy Oak® Camo Finishes Now Available on Leupold® VX®-I and UltimateSlam® 3-9x40mm Scopes

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Utilizing an exclusive camouflage application technology for superior durability, Leupold® now offers the popular Mossy Oak® Break-Up® and Mossy Oak Treestand® hunting patterns on VX®-I and UltimateSlam® 3-9x40mm scope models.

Leupold’s advanced anodization process bonds the camo pattern directly to the scope body, ensuring an extremely tough and long-lasting finish, without adding thickness to the maintube diameter. The VX-I and UltimateSlam scopes are the first to feature this process.

One of the most versatile camo patterns, Mossy Oak Break-Up is effective in various hunting environments, from flooded timber to deep woods. Mossy Oak Treestand is designed specifically for whitetail deer hunters who shoot from an elevated position, providing concealment among the bare limbs of a tree in late fall.

“With these field-proven camo patterns, our VX-I and UltimateSlam scopes are a great choice for deer hunters concerned with concealment, whether they use a rifle, muzzleloader or shotgun,” commented Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Our unique anodization process, combined with the ruggedness typical of all our scopes, will deliver years of reliable performance, season after season.”

The VX-I camo riflescopes have the time-tested Duplex® reticle, micro-friction dials marked in ¼-MOA increments for easy windage and elevation adjustments, and Leupold’s classic lockable eyepiece for a secure focus. UltimateSlam scopes are designed to enhance accuracy with muzzleloaders and shotguns. Each UltimateSlam pairs Leupold’s exclusive Sabot Ballistics Reticle (SA.B.R.®) with an innovative power selector ring that allows hunters to synchronize their gun with their preferred load.

In addition, VX-I and UltimateSlam scopes feature Leupold’s Standard Multicoat lens system for a bright, clear image. Like all Golden Ring® scopes, they are waterproof and fog proof, and tested under extreme conditions to ensure ruggedness and durability.

LEUPOLD Introduces RX-1000i Rangefinders with DNA(tm)

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Powered by an exclusive new rangefinder engine technology, Leupold‘s® RX®-1000i with DNA™ fits in a shirt pocket, yet offers hunters and shooters even more ranging precision and speed, along with an exceptionally bright target image.

DNA (Digitally eNhanced Accuracy), a next-generation Leupold technology, not only increases ranging speed, but makes the RX-1000i accurate to 1/10 of a yard against all background colors and textures. DNA also provides the RX-1000i with greater ranging capability against soft targets such as deer and trees.

A digital laser rangefinder, the compact RX-1000i with DNA measures only 3.8 inches long and weighs just 7.8 ounces. Its multicoated lens system produces a bright, pristine image, helping to transmit 80 percent of available light to the eye – three times greater than the light transmission of traditional Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) rangefinder models. Actual 6x magnification and a vivid red Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) display also make it easier to spot and range game, even through dark timber and in low-light conditions.

The advanced RX-1000i TBR® with DNA models also offer Leupold’s exclusive True Ballistic Range® technology to help place shots with exceptional accuracy.

All RX-1000i units are weatherproof and rugged, with a tough aluminum casing and rubber armor. The RX-1000i with DNA has a black finish, while the TBR model is available in either gray/black or Mossy Oak® Break-Up® Infinity™ camouflage.

“Following on the heels of our successful RX-1000 introduction in 2009, the new RX-1000i with DNA models once again raise the bar on compact rangefinder function and performance, giving hunters and shooters a handy tool to easily spot targets and range them faster and more precisely than ever,” commented Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “These are truly innovative rangefinders that offer the best of all worlds: shirt pocket size for easy and convenient carrying, exceptionally rugged to withstand the hardest hunt, and superior ranging performance to help set up for an accurate shot.”

Maximum range of the RX-1000i with DNA is 1,000 yards (914.4 meters) on reflective targets. Minimum range is 6 yards (5.5 meters). In bow mode, maximum range is 125 yards (114.3 meters). Scan mode provides continuous range updates to help stay on target when tracking movement or scanning an area. Measurements are provided in yards or meters.

Other key features include:

* OLED display has variable brightness settings, making it easier to see in dim light than LCD displays typical of most other rangefinders
* fast-focus eyepiece with precision clicks
* redesigned Quick Set Menu provides on-screen prompts for easy use in the field
* selectable reticles – hunters can choose from three different reticles to best suit the terrain and game, from elk to small varmints
* fold-down rubber eyecups accommodate users with or without glasses
* convenient battery power indicator

The RX-1000i TBR with DNA units can automatically calculate the shot angle and provide the True Ballistic Range rather than the straight-line distance to the target. Optimized for most popular bow and rifle trajectories, the rifle settings also work in conjunction with Leupold’s Ballistic Aiming System® riflescope reticles for exceptionally accurate shot placement. Available only in the RX-1000i TBR, milliradian outputs can precisely match mil based reticles such as the Mil Dot, TMR and Horus Vision® offerings.

Each rangefinder comes with a Cordura® holster, lanyard, CR2 lithium camera battery and complete instructions. For more information, go to www.leupold.com or call 1-800-LEUPOLD.

Leupold® Continues Optics Innovation With New FireDot™ Reticle System

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Leupold‘s® long history of optics innovation for hunting continues with the new illuminated FireDot™ Reticle System, now available exclusively in VX-R™ riflescopes.

The system includes five different reticle choices: FireDot Duplex, Ballistic FireDot, FireDot Circle, FireDot 4 and the FireDot Pig Plex. A fiber optic light pipe with a meticulously cut and polished tip provides an illuminated dot, which can be easily seen in bright light, yet is not overpowering in low- light conditions. Once activated, the dot illuminates with bright, sharp definition, while the rest of the reticle remains non-illuminated. This combination leads the eye naturally to the center aiming point and makes target acquisition quick, precise and simple.

“The tried-and-true Duplex® reticle was invented by Leupold in the early 1960s; our FireDot Reticle System continues that tradition of innovation,” said Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “An all-new fiber optic LED illumination method is employed for the FireDot, which offers reticle options for a wide range of hunting applications.”

Designed for fast target acquisition, each FireDot reticle features an extra-bright centerpoint dot. The FireDot Duplex has the versatility for a broad range of game. Ideal for extended-range shooting, the Ballistic FireDot is well suited for varmint, antelope and big game at longer distances.

The FireDot Circle is designed specifically for fast-moving targets, including dangerous game, pigs and even turkeys. With its bold post, the FireDot 4 helps draw the eye to the center of the reticle and keeps the upper field of view free of obstructions. The FireDot Pig Plex is calibrated to frame up a mature hog and provide just the right amount of lead on running boars.

VX-R riflescopes feature a single push button illumination system with Leupold’s own Motion Sensor Technology (MST™). A touch of the button illuminates the dot within the reticle. By repeatedly pressing the button, the user can select between eight different intensity settings including a high-low indicator, which flashes when either the maximum or minimum intensity is reached. After five minutes of inactivity, the illumination system automatically switches to stand-by mode, but reactivates at the same intensity setting whenever the rifle is moved. This helps extend battery life and, by reducing movement, allows the hunter to maintain greater stealth in the field.

VX-R models include 1.25-4x20mm, 2-7x33mm, 3-9x40mm, 3-9x50mm, 4-12x40mm and 4-12x50mm. Each is available with one or more of the FireDot reticle options. The illumination system is powered by a CR-2032 coin cell battery, readily available around the country Sporting Leupold’s familiar Golden Ring®, VX-R riflescopes are backed by the company’s Full Lifetime Guarantee. Riflescopes with illuminated reticles are legal for use in all states that allow centerfire rifles for big game hunting. For more information, visit a local dealer, go to www.leupold.com or call 1-800-LEUPOLD.

Rig for Pig With Leupold’s® New VX-R™ HOG Illuminated Riflescope

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Boars beware – Leupold® has introduced the VX-R™ HOG illuminated riflescope featuring a specially designed FireDot™ Pig Plex reticle for fast target acquisition and precise shot placement.

The new VX-R HOG is a 1.25-4x20mm riflescope, well suited for the terrain and conditions typical of wild boar country. Its FireDot Pig Plex reticle is not only illuminated, but calibrated to frame up a mature hog and provide just the right amount of lead on running boars.

“As a sponsor of Brian ‘Pigman’ Quaca, we wanted to design a riflescope that matches his passion and commitment to hog hunting,” commented Andy York, vice president of sales, marketing and technology for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Brian and his fellow boar hunters around the country are now rigged for pig with the VX-R HOG, which offers true daylight-capable illumination, a bright and crisp aiming point, low-profile mount and a forgiving eyebox that allows a quick and comfortable cheek weld.”

The HOG and other VX-R illuminated riflescopes combine proprietary powered fiber optic technology and the exclusive FireDot reticle to provide hunters with exceptional target definition and acquisition, in the bright light of day as well as the low light of dawn or dusk.

VX-R scopes feature a single push button illumination system with Leupold’s own Motion Sensor Technology (MST™). A touch of the button illuminates the dot within the reticle. BEAVERTON, Ore. – Leupold‘s® new VX-R™ illuminated riflescopes combine proprietary powered fiber optic technology and an exclusive FireDot™ reticle to provide hunters with exceptional target acquisition, in the bright light of day as well as the low light of dawn or dusk.

In addition, the FireDot reticle in the VX-R has a fiber optic light pipe with a precisely cut and meticulously polished tip designed to deliver an illuminated dot that can be easily seen in bright light, yet is not overpowering in low-light conditions. Once activated, the dot illuminates with bright, sharp definition, while the rest of the reticle remains non-illuminated. This combination leads the eye naturally to the center aiming point and makes target acquisition quick, precise and simple.

“Riflescopes with illuminated reticles are legal for use in all states that allow centerfire rifles for big game hunting,” commented Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Our new VX-R illuminated riflescopes allow hunters around the country to see their game in a better way. VX-R offers true daylight-capable illumination as well as the optical performance required to extend those precious minutes at daybreak or day’s end.”

VX-R models include 1.25-4x20mm, 2-7x33mm, 3-9x40mm, 3-9x50mm, 4-12x40mm and 4-12x50mm. Each is available with one or more of the FireDot reticle options: FireDot Duplex®, Ballistic FireDot, FireDot Circle or FireDot 4. In addition, the 3-9x40mm, 3-9x50mm and 4-12x40mm models are available with Leupold’s Custom Dial System® (CDS®), which helps hunters and shooters get on target at any range, with any load, by matching their scopes to the ballistics of their ammunition and sight-in conditions.
