Leupold’s® VX®-6 Gets FireDot™ Illumination

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Leupold® has added the FireDot™ illumination system to its premier riflescope for hunters, the VX®-6.

The FireDot system leads the eye naturally to the center aiming point and makes target acquisition quick, precise and simple. It has a one-button, low-profile design that offers a choice of 12 different reticle brightness settings. Proprietary Motion Sensor Technology (MST™) automatically deactivates illumination after five minutes of inactivity, but reactivates immediately when any movement is detected.

Specific illuminated reticle options for the VX-6 1-6x24mm magnification include Illuminated Duplex®, Illuminated Circle Dot Post and Illuminated German #4 Dot. Options for the 2-12x42mm magnification are Illuminated Duplex, Illuminated LR Duplex® and Illuminated German #4 Dot.

VX-6 also features a powerful 6:1 zoom ratio. Compared to standard riflescopes, VX-6 provides a wider field of view at the lowest power setting, giving hunters a better look at close, fast-moving game. At the highest power setting, the scope pulls distant targets in tighter for more precise shot placement. Unlike many higher power scopes that deliver their best sight picture only at each end of the zoom ratio, VX-6 is engineered to deliver exceptional image quality from edge-to-edge of the visual field at any magnification.

“VX-6 is as good as it gets,” said Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “FireDot illumination is ideal for low-light conditions typical of the most demanding hunts.”

Another key feature is the Quantum Optical System™ which includes lead-free, precision-ground and edge blackened lenses with Leupold’s Xtended Twilight lens coatings for the highest level of light transmission and clarity. Carefully positioned in optimum relationship to each other, the lenses deliver up to 98 percent total light transmission. Exterior lens surfaces are coated with DiamondCoat 2™ for unsurpassed resistance to scratching and abrasion.

VX-6 has pop-up, re-zeroable finger click adjustments (¼-MOA or one cm depending on model) for windage and elevation that can be converted to Leupold’s Custom Dial System (CDS®). With CDS, hunters can get on target at any range, with any load, by matching their scopes to the ballistics of their ammunition and sight-in conditions. Each scope comes with one free CDS dial.

In addition, VX-6 has a generous eyebox and long eye relief, making it quick and easy for hunters to get their eye behind the riflescope and attain a full, clear sight picture. Compared to competitive riflescopes, the VX-6′s eyebox is up to 137 percent larger at the high power ranges, and up to 67 percent larger at the low power ranges. This provides exceptional flexibility when setting up for longer shots at high power, as well as the quick target acquisition required for close-up big game or dangerous game situations.

Other key features:

Leupold’s most durable Twin Bias Spring Erector System™ provides the utmost in mechanical reliability. It is built with up to 30 percent more holding force than competitive riflescopes to withstand the most intense recoil and abuse.

Extreme fast-focus eyepiece allows smooth, fast and precise focus adjustment for users of different visual acuity, from nearsighted to farsighted.

Second generation Argon/Krypton waterproofing and fog proofing. Enhanced thermal shock resistance.

VX-6 riflescopes have a rugged 30mm matte black maintube. Sporting Leupold’s familiar Golden Ring®, VX-6 is backed by the company’s Full Lifetime Guarantee. For more information, visit a local dealer, go to www.leupold.com or call 1-800-LEUPOLD.

Built for Battle: Leupold® Covers Entire Spectrum of Tactical Optics Needs

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Leupold‘s® intense focus on product development has culminated in a new generation of tactical riflescopes that cover the entire spectrum of optics requirements, from close quarters to extended ranges, for warfighters as well as competitive shooters.

In 2011, the Leupold Tactical Optics Division has launched innovative riflescopes including the Mark 4® 6.5-20x50mm Extended Range/Tactical (ER/T®) M5 Auto-Locking Adjustment model, the Mark 8™ 1.1-8x24mm CQBSS™ and the Mark 4 High Accuracy Multi-Range (HAMR™). The U.S. Army has chosen the ER/T M5 Auto-Locking Adjustment riflescope as the primary day optic for its newest sniper rifle, the XM2010. In addition, Leupold recently contracted with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) to supply the CQBSS for use with M2 heavy machine guns and MK19 grenade machine guns. The Marine Corps sight will carry the M521 designation.

“Whatever the mission or application, whether the weapon is a sniper rifle or carbine, we have an optic that will help achieve success on the battlefield or in precision shooting competitions,” said Kevin Trepa, vice president of Leupold’s Tactical Division. “Our next-generation riflescopes are the result of a concentrated product development program with the military over the past couple years, and we will continue our hard work to meet the requirements of our warfighters and civilian shooters alike.”

The ER/T Auto-Locking Adjustment riflescope is specially designed and built with the military sniper in mind. It has an auto-locking elevation adjustment. This feature ensures that reticle adjustment is maintained during rough going and stressful conditions. Reticle options include the Horus™ H27 and H58, as well as Leupold’s Tactical Milling Reticle® (TMR®).

Versatile enough for close quarters battle as well as distances out to several hundred meters, the CQBSS is available with the new Horus H27D reticle or Leupold’s Military-Tactical Milling Reticle (M-TMR™). The M-TMR is designed to allow successful range estimation and target engagement with more flexibility than generally possible with other reticle styles.

Built for precise mid-range marksmanship and fast target acquisition, the HAMR features an illuminated CM-R2™ reticle. Leupold’s DeltaPoint™ reflex sight, utilizing either a 7.5-MOA Delta reticle or 3.5-MOA Dot reticle, can be attached to the HAMR, providing instant target acquisition capability at close quarters. (DeltaPoint and HAMR are available as a package.)

Other recent developments in the Leupold Tactical line include the Mark 4 Close Quarters/Tactical (CQ/T®) riflescope, which is now offered with the CM-R2 reticle; the Mark 4 20-60x80mm Tactical Spotting Scope available with the Mil Dot or TMR reticle; and the Mark 4 12-40x60mm Tactical Spotting Scope with the Horus H32 (standard or inverted) or H36 reticle (standard or inverted). In addition, the new Integral Mounting System (IMS™), created specifically for most AR and other tactical rifles, features a monolithic, cantilever design for strength and durability under the harshest conditions. The IMS eliminates problems associated with the two most common issues faced when mounting standard riflescopes to AR-style rifles: scope height and eye relief.

Leupold® Tactical Optics Creates a New HAMR™

BEAVERTON, Ore. – New from Leupold’s® Tactical Optics Division, the Mark 4® High Accuracy Multi-Range (HAMR™) riflescope has the performance and versatility required for active duty in bright daylight, low light and at night.

The Mark 4 HAMR is a fixed power 4x24mm sight. Built for precise mid-range marksmanship and fast target acquisition, it offers a variety of features that work to the advantage of military warfighters, law enforcement personnel, and other tactical or competitive shooters. These features include the ballistically matched illuminated CM-R2™ reticle, a fast-focus eyepiece and Leupold’s advanced Xtended Twilight Lens System™. In addition, Leupold’s DeltaPoint™ reflex sight can be attached to the HAMR, providing instant target acquisition capability at close quarters. (DeltaPoint and HAMR are available as a package.)

“Our new Mark 4 HAMR is versatile, tough, compact and combat-ready,” said Kevin Trepa, vice president of tactical sales and marketing for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Simple to use, it can be employed with any AR-15 variant to engage targets with exceptional speed and precision.”

The CM-R2 reticle is designed for the most popular tactical rounds and weapons systems. An etched glass reticle, it is clearly visible with the illumination activated or in the “off” mode.

By combining the ranging ability of Leupold’s Special Purpose Reticle (SPR®) with the quick acquisition of the Leupold Circle Dot reticle, the CM-R2 provides the flexibility necessary on the modern battlefield or 3-gun course. The CM-R2 preserves the instinctive fire capabilities of the Circle Dot for the short-range, low-magnification needs of the CQB warfighter and competitive multi-gun shooters.

The CM-R2 is designed to allow the shooter to focus more attention on the target and less attention on the reticle. A boldly illuminated 0.5 MOA dot surrounded by a 5.0 MOA semi-circle enhance the shooter’s focus and combine precision with speed when the target is up close and personal. Hash marks on the horizontal stadia are calibrated for leading moving targets at 5, 10 and 15 mph, respectively. Vertical tic marks allow users to estimate ranges based on 18″ wide targets at increasing ranges, while also providing precise holdover points for targets between 300 and 900 meters.

With a quick 1.5 revolutions “lock to lock,” the rapid adjustment speed of the HAMR’s eyepiece helps get the shooter in focus and on target in short order. The addition of a DeltaPoint allows the user to quickly shift from the reflex sight to the HAMR, transitioning from close quarters to longer ranges with speed and ease.

Leupold’s Xtended Twilight Lens System provides superior light transmission for the best low-light performance, particularly in the blue/violet light of dawn and dusk. The system produces an extremely bright, sharp image across the HAMR’s visual field. Combined with a constant 2.71 inches of eye relief, the optical system is much more forgiving and effective than first-generation optical sights.

A flat-top Picatinny mounting system is included with each HAMR. It is compatible with any rail mounting system. Other features include 0.10 mil click adjustments for windage and elevation, and a F88 5.56mm Bullet Drop Compensation (BDC) dial.

Ready for deployment, the Mark 4 HAMR comes in a matte black finish, weighs 17.2 ounces and is 5.6 inches long. The scope is waterproof, fog proof and shock proof.

USMC Awards Contract to Leupold Tactical for Mark 8 CQBSS Riflescopes

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Leupold’s® Tactical Optics Division has won a contract with the United States Marine Corps (USMC) to supply 728 Mark 8™ 1.1-8x24mm CQBSS™ riflescopes for use with M2 heavy machine guns and MK19 grenade machine guns. The sight will carry the M521 designation.

Ordered to meet the need of Afghanistan-based Marine units for a Heavy Day Optic, the Mark 8 CQBSS scopes will be employed to support combat operations. A key feature of the scope is Leupold’s new Marine-Tactical Milling Reticle (M-TMR™), which is designed to allow successful range estimation and target engagement with more flexibility than generally possible with other reticle styles. The M-TMR’s “staircased” configuration preserves the instinctive-fire capabilities on low magnification while allowing precise range estimation at any power setting.

“The Marine Corps’ innovative employment of this new technology will bring enhanced lethality to two combat-proven systems, the M2 and MK19 heavy machine guns,” said Kevin Trepa, vice president of Leupold’s Tactical Division. “We will continue working hard to deliver the new tools that our warfighters need to succeed on the battlefield.”

The Mark 8 CQBSS has a state-of-the-art lens system providing operators with the capability of an 8-power precision riflescope in one rugged, field-proven unit. The 34mm maintube features a fully checkered ocular bell for making quick magnification adjustments even while wearing gloves.

A front focal plane reticle, the M-TMR is accurate at all magnification settings. Eight illumination settings allow for optimum contrast with or without night vision. An off position between each intensity setting makes returning to the preferred setting nearly immediate.

In addition, the Mark 8 CQBSS has Auto-Locking Pinch and Turn turrets with 0.10 mil clicks that are extremely easy to adjust, yet eliminate accidental adjustment in the field. Leupold’s Index Matched Lens System® with DiamondCoat 2™ helps enhance optical performance by providing increased light transmission and scratch resistance that exceeds mil-specs.

Mark 8 CQBSS riflescopes have a matte black finish and are filled with an argon/krypton gas blend, making them second-generation waterproof, fog proof and shock proof. Flip-open lens covers and a 2.5″ sun shade are standard issue.

Mossy Oak® Camo Finishes Now Available on Leupold® VX®-I and UltimateSlam® 3-9x40mm Scopes

BEAVERTON, Ore. – Utilizing an exclusive camouflage application technology for superior durability, Leupold® now offers the popular Mossy Oak® Break-Up® and Mossy Oak Treestand® hunting patterns on VX®-I and UltimateSlam® 3-9x40mm scope models.

Mossy Oak Treestand is designed specifically for whitetail deer hunters who shoot from an elevated position, providing concealment among the bare limbs of a tree in late fall.

“With these field-proven camo patterns, our VX-I and UltimateSlam scopes are a great choice for deer hunters concerned with concealment, whether they use a rifle, muzzleloader or shotgun,” commented Pat Mundy, communications manager for Leupold & Stevens, Inc. “Our unique anodization process, combined with the ruggedness typical of all our scopes, will deliver years of reliable performance, season after season.”

The VX-I camo riflescopes have the time-tested Duplex® reticle, micro-friction dials marked in ¼-MOA increments for easy windage and elevation adjustments, and Leupold’s classic lockable eyepiece for a secure focus. UltimateSlam scopes are designed to enhance accuracy with muzzleloaders and shotguns. Each UltimateSlam pairs Leupold’s exclusive Sabot Ballistics Reticle (SA.B.R.®) with an innovative power selector ring that allows hunters to synchronize their gun with their preferred load.
