Turnbull Introduces TAR-15 Semi-Auto Rifle
|
Turnbull Mfg. Co has introduced their latest top quality rifle with the carbon steel .223 TAR-15. This semi-automatic rifle was developed for the shooter or collector that wants a one of a kind AR type rifle and intends to add their own sighting system. Like all Turnbull rifles, the TAR-15 features the workmanship and detail that is the mark of a Turnbull firearm.
“With the rising popularity of the AR-15 platform, it seemed time to design and produce a truly collectible version of this amazing shooting platform, “commented CEO Doug Turnbull, “while still turning out what is one of the most accurate and easy shooting AR type rifles. I am very proud to put my name on the TAR-15.”
The TAR-15 is based on the standard AR-15 platform, but the “standard” stops there. The upper and lower are both crafted from 8620 carbon steel that is finished in the Turnbull bone/charcoal case hardening process that lends both the colorful finish and hardens the steel. The barrel is chrome lined in both the bore and chamber ease of maintenance, durability and maximum accuracy.
The TAR-15 comes standard with a 16 inch barrel and includes a screw-on muzzle brake. Other barrel lengths up to 24 inches are available at an additional charge. These rifles use the gas impingement system for smoother recoil and control. The gun ships with an oversized integral trigger guard to fit a gloved finger easily for cold weather or other gloved situations.
The stocks and forend are premium American Black Walnut that has been designed to maximize the ergonomics of the AR-15 design while allowing for the esthetics of fine wood furniture. The wood is available in either a urethane or oiled matte finish in several grades. The TAR-15 ships in a lockable hard travel case with a 4 and 10 round magazine. All TAR-15 rifles carry the Turnbull one year warranty.
MSRP is $2,495 complete with case and muzzle brake. Please contact Bob Chipman at

Hi-Lux Optics’ TB M Muzzleloading Scope Doubles as Shotgun Slug Scope
|
Across much of the U.S., upwards of 5-million deer hunters cannot head for a favorite deer woods with a rifle slung over their shoulder. These hunters live or hunt where the human population is so dense and so widespread that hunting with a long range shooting rifle has been banned. In some Midwestern states hunting whitetails with a center-fire rifle has never been allowed. Instead these hunters have had to rely on a shotgun that shoots a slug with some reasonable degree of accuracy, limiting shots to under 200 yards. Today, an ever growing segment of those hunters are moving away from the smooth-bored deer hunting shotguns and heavy lead rifled slugs of the past, and are now going afield with rifled 12- and 20-gauge shotguns loaded with far more efficient slugs with saboted bullets.
The still relatively new shotgun slug concept is very similar to the sabots and bullets which have popularized the modern in-line ignition .50 caliber muzzleloaders. Thanks to the newer powders currently available, muzzleloading hunters are now hitting the woods with a rifle and load fully capable of getting a saboted 300-grain bullet out of the muzzle at 1,900 to 2,000 f.p.s. To tap the game taking performance of these rifles, the Hi-Lux Optics 3-9x40mm TB-ML multi-reticle hunting scope was developed to allow “dead on” holds with the proper reticle out to 250 yards. These scopes are now showing up on the modern sabot-slug shooting rifled shotguns for the same reason – for more precise shot placement out to and past 200 yards. (Photo above shows the scope on a Traditions .50 caliber VORTEK rifle.)
Performance wise, today’s saboted slugs are right on par with the velocities and trajectories of popular saboted bullets for modern .50 caliber muzzleloaders – and the reticles of the TB-ML muzzleloader scope will keep those slugs in the kill zone all the way out to 250 yards. This scope is built with the same rugged construction as all other Hi-Lux Optics “All Terrain Riflescopes” and will stand up to the recoil of a 12-gauge shotgun for a lifetime of shooting and hunting. The TB-ML models comes in matte blue-black finish for $179 and in matte silver finish for $189. All Hi-Lux Optics models come with a Limited Lifetime Warranty. Bushnell Outdoor Products Contributes $145,000 to Folds of Honor Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 2013

Overland Park, Kan. — Bushnell Outdoor Products, an industry leader in sports optics and outdoor accessories for 65 years, has announced its 2012 contribution to Folds of Honor Foundation will total $145,000. Since establishing a partnership in 2010, the optics leader has contributed more than $450,000 to Folds of Honor, supporting the spouses and children of disabled or fallen soldiers.
Founded by Major Dan Rooney in 2007, Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to the spouses and children of service members disabled or killed during U.S. military service. Major Rooney, a former F-16 pilot who served three tours in Iraq, founded Folds of Honor to ensure that families of fallen servicemen and women are never left behind on the field of battle.
In addition to the contribution, Bushnell has partnered with country music star Craig Morgan on a donation download program benefitting the Folds of Honor. A 10-year veteran of the U.S. Army, Morgan wrote and dedicated a song titled “What Matters Most” to the heroes Folds of Honor supports.
The track, a tribute to the millions of service men and women who defend America’s freedom, parallels the stories of so many who have lost loved ones on the field of battle. For each download of “What Matters Most,” Bushnell will donate $1 (up to $10,000) to Folds of Honor.
“Bushnell continues to be an incredible partner that is willing to put its money and marketing support behind ensuring that no family gets left behind when it comes to education,” said Major Dan Rooney, Folds of Honor president and founder. “Thanks to the generosity from partners like Bushnell, we have now awarded more than 3,800 scholarships to deserving families,” added Rooney.

About Folds of Honor Foundation
Major Dan Rooney, a PGA Professional, USGA member and former F-16 military pilot with the Oklahoma Air National Guard, founded the Folds of Honor Foundation in 2007 following his second of three tours of duty in Iraq. While a passenger on a commercial flight, Major Rooney witnessed an event that would profoundly change his life. As the plane landed, the pilot announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have an American hero on board – Corporal Brock Bucklin – and his twin brother, Corporal Brad Bucklin, is accompanying him home from Iraq. As a sign of respect, please remain seated while Corporal Bucklin’s family receives him in his final homecoming.” Major Rooney watched through the window of the plane as the flag-draped casket was lowered. He saw a family waiting for Brock, and a little four-year old boy waiting for his father. This tragic homecoming inspired Major Rooney to create the Folds of Honor Foundation. More than one million dependents have been affected by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Of these, 85 percent do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Individuals interested in contributing to the Folds of Honor, and those applying for scholarships should go to FoldsofHonor.org.
