Traditions Announces Traditions Ultralight
![]() |
May, 2011…Old Saybrook, CT- Traditions™ Performance Firearms, known for their extremely accurate and dependable muzzleloaders, announces their new Pursuit™ Ultralight. Traditions™ has taken the well-known and dependable Pursuit series and combined it with the lightweight and balanced Ultralight series, bringing to the market the lightest muzzleloader in the world.
Traditions™ has addressed the problem of muzzleloaders being too heavy and created a revolutionary gun. Weighing in at a mere 5.15 lbs, the new Pursuit™ Ultralight has a Chromoly steel barrel which has long been recognized as the best barrel material for strength and accuracy among centerfires. Despite a lighter gun, none of the great features you have come to expect with Traditions™ have been sacrificed. The Pursuit™ Ultralight is Traditions’ mid-level, break action gun for hunters and shooters who are looking for a full-featured gun at a fraction of the cost. The 26″ barrel comes with Premium CeraKote Finish which provides a high-quality, long lasting coating that can handle anything Mother Nature can dish out. The Pursuit™ Ultralight also comes equipped with the Speed Load System for easier bullet loading and more consistent groups, Williams™ fiber optic sights, and the Accelerator Breech Plug™. The Pursuit™ Ultralight has a Dual Safety System which allows for two safeties: a trigger block safety built into the trigger guard and a secondary internal hammer block safety, which stops the hammer from engaging the firing pin unless the trigger is pulled. The Pursuit™ Ultralight MSRP ranges from $295 to $435 depending on the model. Traditions™ has added many of the features requested by hunters and shooters and created a gun that is impressive in its own right. Traditions™ invites you to feel the difference for yourself.

Ruger Announces 77/357 Bolt Action Chambered in .357 Magnum
![]() |
Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is proud to announce the Ruger® 77/357™, a lightweight, bolt-action rifle chambered in the venerable .357 Magnum and fed via a rotary magazine.
The bolt-action 77/357 features a five-round rotary magazine and is offered in the Ruger All-Weather® configuration, which includes a durable, weather-resistant stainless steel barrel and receiver and a rugged, black composite stock. Although it is fitted with fully adjustable iron sights, the 77/357 also ships with patented Ruger scope rings, allowing a variety of sighting options for this lightweight (5-1/2 pounds), quick-handling rifle.
“The 77/357 is an effective tool for hunting medium-sized game – especially in heavy cover,” said Bruce Rozum, Chief Rifle Engineer at Ruger. “Bullet velocities of .357 Magnum ammunition increase significantly when fired out of the 77/357′s 18 1/2″ cold hammer-forged barrel. In testing, Hornady® 140 grain FTX® loads were clocked at over 1820 feet per second. Furthermore, the flush-fit, five-shot rotary magazine does not protrude at the rifle’s balance point and, unlike tube-fed rifles, the Ruger 77/357 can be readily loaded and unloaded,” he concluded.

Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR), is pleased to announce the introduction of the new Ruger® SR-556E™, a value-priced derivative of the popular SR-556®. The new SR-556E features Ruger’s patent-pending two-stage piston and multi-stage regulator that runs cooler and cleaner than traditional AR-style rifles.
The Ruger SR-556E comes equipped with a new, lightweight, adaptable handguard which provides multiple options for mounting optics and other accessories. This new, round handguard features a full-length Picatinny rail at the 12:00 position, which aligns with the rail on the flattop receiver. The handguard also accepts sections of rail or handguard covers, available at ShopRuger.com, which allow the user to configure the handguard to their exact requirements while minimizing size and weight.

Mossberg® MVP Series of Bolt-Action Rifles Introduced at NRA Convention
![]() |
North Haven, CT – O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc. announces a new line of dedicated varmint and predator bolt-action rifles, the MVP (Mossberg Varmint Predator) Series, based on the overwhelming success of the Mossberg 4×4™ centerfire rifle. The engineers at Mossberg combined this classic bolt-action platform with the features most highly-desired by dedicated varmint and predator hunters and long-range competitive shooters in this innovative and well-designed series. Notably-setting this family of rifles apart from the competition is its unique, patent-pending bolt design which allows MVP Series rifles to accept and reliably feed from AR-15 style magazines; a breakthrough innovation in bolt-action platforms!
The first rifle in this ground-breaking series, the MVP Series Varmint chambered in 5.56mm NATO (.223 Rem), was recently unveiled at the 2011 NRA Convention in Pittsburgh, PA. Two initial offerings will be available this summer including a standard rifle package with 10-round magazine and factory-installed, Weaver-style bases for customization with optics of the shooter’s choice. The second is a convenient combo package which includes the rifle, pre-mounted and bore-sighted 4-16x50mm variable riflescope, bi-pod and 10-round magazine.
The MVP Series Varmint Rifle, chambered in .5.56mm NATO (.223 Rem), has a 1:9 twist rate to optimize bullet performance and accuracy from the 24-inch button-rifled, medium bull barrel which also features a varmint-style crown to protect the muzzle. Stylish fluting reduces weight and increases heat dissipation. The helically-fluted bolt further reduces the rifle’s overall weight and adds to its distinctive look. The innovative, patent-pending bolt design allows the rifle to accept AR-15 style aftermarket magazines and the 10-round magazine included from the factory. All metalwork features a matte blue finish.
The grey laminate, benchrest-style stock has an ergonomically-designed pistol grip with palm swell and is pillar bedded for the utmost in shot placement repeatability. Stippling on the forend and pistol grip provide for positive hand placement in any weather condition while the deeply-relieved area behind the pistol grip increases wrist and forearm comfort during long shooting strings. The comb is parallel to the bore centerline to eliminate parallax errors. The wide, flat-bottom forend is perfect for sandbag rests or bipod use.
Performance and accuracy are key to long-range shooting and the MVP Series Varmint rifle, as with all 4×4 bolt-actions, comes standard with Mossberg’s Lightning Bolt-Action™ (LBA™) Adjustable Trigger System. Built with durability and reliability in mind, the LBA trigger assembly is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and hard-coat anodized to military spec, preventing corrosion and minimizing wear. The trigger blade blocks the sear from releasing the striker unless the blade is fully depressed, even at the lightest adjustment setting. And with a simple twist of a standard screwdriver, the LBA trigger is adjustable from 2 to 7 lbs, providing the shooter with the flexibility of adjusting the trigger pull without taking the rifle to a gunsmith. With its distinctive, skeletonized “lightning bolt” trigger blade, the LBA Trigger System offers a truly crisp, creep-free trigger, optimizing accuracy and shot-to-shot consistency.
Other standard features on this MVP Series rifle include sling swivel studs and factory-installed Weaver-style scope bases. Built for performance and featured-packed, this varminter weighs in at mere 7 ¼ lbs and can deliver MOA accuracy right from the box!
This first offering in the MVP Series combines the performance, features and value that hunters and shooters worldwide have come to expect from Mossberg. Be one of the first to own a MVP Series Varmint rifle, see your local Mossberg retailer today.
