Crimson Trace Rail Master Universal Laser Sight

March 7, 2012
By
As originally seen in Gun Nuts Media.

Crimson Trace has released the Rail Master, a universal rail-mounted laser for pistols or rifles. The key word that makes the Rail Master awesome? Universal.

The little (and I do mean little, it weighs practically nothing) laser can be easily mounted on pretty much any rail, making it perfect for those who can’t get Laser Grips for their pistol or those who don’t want the bulk of the grips or the weight of a Laser Guard. For me? I think it would be awesome on a rifle rail.

The one down side of opting for something like the Rail Master over regular Crimson Trace Laser Grips is that the Rail Master is activated by a switch rather than the instinctive activation most of Crimson Trace’s products utilize. The switch is easy enough to use and fully ambidextrous; there’s a paddle on either side of the Rail Master that is pressed to turn the laser on, but it’s one more thing to think about in a high-stress situation. On the other hand, something Caleb pointed out, there are no light “NDs”, although in my mind if I’m drawing my gun I’m going to be shouting and trying to do anything I can to illuminate the area and a little bit of laser really isn’t going to hurt me any. I guess it depends on how tactical you are.

The Rail Master has over four hours of battery life, comes sighted from the factory at 50′ and weighs next to nothing. It fits a pistol, rifle or shotgun with a M1913 Picatinny or Weaver accessory rail. That means 1911s with rails, most 3rd Gen Glocks, 4th Gen Glock 17s and 19s, HK P30s, M&Ps, Sig P220, P226, P229, the Ruger SR series, Springfield XDs and XDMs and pretty much any other rail-equipped pistol.

Light, easy to use and can be mounted on just about anything. I need a minimum of 4.

Crimson Trace Debuts Industry’s First Instinctively Activated Green Handgun Lasers

Wilsonville, OR –In a move that caught much of the industry by surprise, Crimson Trace, the maker of the World’s only grip activated laser sights, unveiled its new line of green handgun lasers to a record crowd of over 70,000 consumers at the NRA Annual Convention in St. Louis last weekend. Boldly debuting six models in all significant platforms – Lasergrips®, Laserguard® and Universal Rail Master™ – scheduled to begin delivery to market in the Fall of 2012.

The first green lasers to hit the market will be in the Laserguard platform for Glock, Smith & Wesson M&P, Springfield XDm and 1911 frames and visually follow company’s award-winning Lightguard™ design. “By now, most consumers are savvy enough to know that green lasers have always been power-hungry compared to their red counterparts,” explained Kent Thomas, Director of Marketing for Crimson Trace. “By mounting them in front of the trigger guard, we’re able to utilize battery power in both a functional and design friendly way significantly more than ever – which means our customers never have to compromise on run time.” Also available in Fall 2012 will be the wildly popular Rail Master product, which is the company’s first Universal fit product for handguns with Picitinny Rails. Just as important as the green laser product introduction, holsters from BladeTech, De Santis, Crossbreed and Galco are available to fit these new green laser sights.

Creating the most buzz and excitement, however, were the sneak-peek prototypes of green Lasergrips®, scheduled to be available in early 2013. Green lasers have traditionally been much bulkier than red versions due to their more complex construction. Until now, this has prevented their use in the patented grip integrated lasers that made Crimson Trace the industry leader in laser sighting systems. Using an entirely new kind of laser, the company has managed to reduce the footprint of the diode package while simultaneously reducing the power it needs to function. “This new technology is a game changer,” said Thomas. “Next year, customers will be able to get the instinctive activation, innovative engineering and quality Crimson Trace is famous for, but with the option of green in a few of the most popular gun frames in the market. Once again, we’ve listened to the market, our loyal consumers and found a way to deliver what they want in only the way Crimson Trace can.”

GunVault Introduces The DrawerVault

San Bernardino, CA – GunVault is proud to announce the latest addition to its popular and affordable line of compact security safes – the DrawerVault. Now there’s a security solution designed for any room in the house. The new DrawerVault series fits and operates in most standard drawers, making it the smart choice for handgun storage. Also perfect for passports, documents, cash or other valuables, the DrawerVault is ideal for your home or business.

Capable of fitting most tablets and E-Readers, the DrawerVault is constructed of tamper-proof 18-gauge steel and includes a foam-lined interior to protect its contents. It’s available with GunVault’s patented No-Eyes® keypad or biometric fingerprint scanner for easy access. An activation button triggers a spring-loaded, tamper resistant door that not only has a high-strength lock mechanism, but also performs reliably, time after time. Foolproof security is ensured with a backup override key and optional high-strength security cable. An audio and LED low battery indicator protect against direct tampering and unexpected power loss.

The DrawerVault Bio uses biometrics, specifically fingerprint recognition, to access the safe contents faster and more securely than ever before. A high-performance algorithm is used to achieve speedy identification of enrolled fingerprints and at the same time has a very low False Reject Rate (FRR). The self-learning algorithm adds new minutiae to the fingerprint templates each time a user touches the fingerprint sensor, which decreases the likelihood of FRR, updates slight changes that might occur over time to an enrolled fingerprint and helps diminish variations between the enrolled fingerprints. The system can hold up to 120 fingerprint templates.

Firearms Industry Helps Lead Economic Recovery; New Study Shows Growth in Jobs, Taxes Paid and Sales

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Earlier today, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry, released a newly commissioned report detailing double-digit gains in jobs and other data showing the industry has been a leader in the nation’s economic recovery. The report can be viewed at http://nssf.org/impact.

Firearms industry members were briefed on such remarkable statistics as the 30.6 percent increase in jobs between 2008 and 2011, a 66.5 percent increase in economic impact and a 66.5 percent increase in federal taxes paid by industry companies. Armed with the good news of the report and recognizing that jobs and the economy are of major importance in the November elections, industry executives are scheduled to meet today with elected officials during the NSSF-sponsored Congressional Fly-In.

“During difficult economic times and high unemployment rates nationally, our industry actually grew and created more than ten thousand new, well-paying jobs,” said NSSF President Steve Sanetti. “Our industry is proud to be one of the bright spots in this economy.”

Key Points: Firearms and Ammunition Industry Economic Impact
2008 2011 % Change
Direct Jobs 75,600 98,750 30.6%
Total Jobs 166,200 209,750 26.2%
Econ Impact $19,128,934,700 $31,838,799,400 66.5%
Key Points: Taxes
2008 2011 % Change
Federal Taxes $1,503,740,470 $2,503,904,400 66.5%
State Taxes $1,299,088,680 $2,071,203,430 59.4%
Excise Taxes $351,540,010 $487,998,106 38.8%

The firearms industry has stood apart from other industries by thriving in a down economy. Indicators such as background-check statistics, firearms production and importation, firearm-retailer surveys and on-the-ground reports from retailers nationwide reveal that Americans are purchasing firearms in record numbers. For example, federal background checks for March totaled nearly 1.2 million in adjusted figures, representing an increase of 20 percent over a year ago and the 22nd straight month-over-month increase. (NSSF adjusts figures from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System to remove purpose-code checks associated concealed carry applications and permits. Though not a direct correlation to firearm sales, adjusted NICS figures provide a more accurate picture of market conditions.)

This year’s robust sales are a continuation of the economic growth the firearms and ammunition industry experienced last year that was driven by an unprecedented number of Americans choosing to exercise their fundamental right to keep and bear arms and purchase a firearm and ammunition. This increase in firearms ownership coincided with the continued decline in accidental firearm-related fatalities–a more than a 60 percent decrease in the last 20 years–and a continued drop in crime rates nationally.

Also cited in the economic impact report were the significant taxes paid by industry member companies to federal and state governments and the Pittman-Robertson excise tax the industry pays on the products it sells. The latter tax is the major source of wildlife conservation funding in America.

“Last year our industry increased its contribution to wildlife conservation by over seven percent, which translates into sportsmen contributing more than 1.3 million dollars daily to conservation efforts,” said NSSF Senior Vice President and General Counsel Lawrence G. Keane.

“Ours is an industry with a rich history and heritage that remains vital and important to the American economy today,” continued Keane. “To millions of Americans our industry’s products represent liberty, security and recreation. We look forward to speaking with members of Congress today about important legislative and regulatory issues that will allow our industry members to continue to grow their businesses and create even more new jobs in their communities.”
